The Thursday MLB schedule will get underway with a matchup between the Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers from Comerica Park. On Wednesday, Kansas City was unable to protect a two-run lead entering the eighth inning before falling versus Minnesota by a 7-6 final score. Aaron Gordon homered and drove in four runs for the Royals, who have lost three of their first five games.

Twenty-six year old righty Jakob Junis (1-0 4.76 ERA) will take the mound for the Royals in this matchup. Last season, surrendered 32 home runs and owned a 1.27 WHIP in 177 innings of work. The Detroit Tigers will be playing in their home opener, after winning four of their first seven games at Toronto and New York. On Wednesday, Gordon Beckham put Detroit ahead with an eighth-inning solo blast to lift Detroit to a 2-1 victory against New York. Detroit skipper Ron Gardenhire will turn to right-hander Spencer Turnbull (0-1 5.40 ERA) on Thursday. Turnbull has started four games in his major league career and is still looking for his first win.

Kansas City C Salvador Perez (elbow) had Tommy John Surgery and will miss the entire season. Last season, Kansas City ranked 25th in OPS and 25th in runs scored.
