An interleague series will conclude on Wednesday afternoon, when the Kansas City Royals and St. Louis Cardinals battle from Busch Stadium. The Royals dropped the series opener but bounced back last night with a 5-1 victory. Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez each went deep for Kansas City, who is 18 games below .500 overall.
Twenty-five year old righty Jakob Junis (5-3 3.51 ERA) will take the mound for the Royals in this matchup. In his last start, Junis allowed two runs over five plus frames during a 5-2 victory versus the New York Yankees.
The St. Louis Cardinals started the season off in slow fashion, but are looking like contenders once again. Last night, SP Luke Weaver (3-4) allowed three runs over seven frames and took the loss. Yairo Munoz had four hits in a losing effort for St. Lous, who is 2.5 games behind Milwaukee for the NL Central Division lead.
St. Louis skipper Mike Matheny will turn to right-hander Michael Wacha (5-1 3.08 ERA) in the series finale. The Cardinals have won seven of Wacha’s nine starts this season and he owns a 1.31 WHIP.
