Colorado entering the series has lost four straight after losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday 10-7. With the loss, the Rockies were swept by the Dodgers at home in their three-game series. The Rockies are one game back in second place in the National League West but are just one game away from dropping to fourth place in the tightly-packed division.
Cincinnati has lost two straight entering this series with the Rockies, after losing on Sunday to the San Diego Padres 6-3. The Reds were off on Monday prior to Tuesday’s start to this series. Reds pitching gave up a tie-breaking grand slam to the Padres on Sunday and the offense could not recover in their 3-run defeat.
Nolan Arenado leads the Rockies with a .327 batting average and team highs in hits with 66 and home runs with 12. Trevor Story is the RBIs leader with 41. Colorado has a team batting average of .242 while opposing hitters are averaging .255 at the plate against Rockies pitching. On Wednesday, the Rockies will send Jon Gray to the mound. The right-hander this season is 5-6 with an ERA of 5.68, 76 Ks and 19 BBs.
Scooter Gennett leads the Reds with a .342 batting average, 75 hits and 12 home runs. Eugenio Suarez is the team leader in RBIs with 44. Cincinnati has a team batting average of .247 while opposing hitters are averaging .270 at the plate against Reds pitching. Cincinnati will send Sal Romano to the mound on Wednesday.
