In Wednesday interleague play, the Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Tigers will complete their two-game set from Comerica Park. Last night, the Reds managed just five hits during a 2-1 loss. SP Homer Bailey struck out six in a complete game losing effort for Cincinnati, who is 11 games below .500 overall and in last place in the NL Central Division.

Twenty-four year old righty Sal Romano (6-8 5.04 ERA) will make his 21st start of the season for the Reds. Through 110 plus innings, Romano has surrendered 20 home runs and owns a 1.42 WHIP. The Detroit Tigers were predictably sellers at the trade deadline and will continue to focus their efforts on rebuilding. On Tuesday, SP Matthew Boyd (6-9) allowed four hits and struck out seven batters in eight innings to earn the win. Niko Goodrum homered for the Tigers, who are 16 games below .500 overall.

Mike Fiers was scheduled to start this game for the Tigers, but he was shipped to Oakland at yesterday’s trade deadline. Detroit ranks 20th in team ERA at 4.43 runs allowed per game and 23rd in quality starts.

Detroit SP Michael Fulmer (oblique) was expected to resume his throwing program on Tuesday. Through 107 games, Cincinnati ranks 4th in batting average and 9th in runs scored. For the season, Detroit ranks 22nd in batting average and 25th in runs scored. Take the Reds to earn a split with a win on Wednesday. Final Score Prediction, Cincinnati Reds win 6-3.
