On Tuesday, the Cincinnati Reds open an interleague series on the road against the Kansas City Royals.
The Reds are off Monday, and defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 6-3 on Sunday. Cincinnati’s Billy Hamilton made important defensive plays in center field to help lead the Reds to victory. Hamilton threw out a pair of runners and made impressive catches in both the eighth and ninth innings at the wall. If that was not enough Hamilton also had a triple and scored two runs.
The Royals are off on Monday as well and lost Sunday 3-2 to the Oakland A’s. The Royals had the good ahead run thrown out at home in the eighth by the A’s and then allowed a go-ahead run to Oakland on a home run in the bottom of the eighth.
Scooter Gennett leads the Reds with a.340 batting average and team highs in hits with 82 and home runs with 12. Eugenio Suarez has 48 RBIs to lead the team. Cincinnati has a team batting average of .251, while opposing hitters are averaging .269 at the plate against Reds pitching. On Tuesday, the Reds will send Sal Romano to the mound. The right-hander this season is 3-7 with an ERA of 6.23, 48 Ks and 30 BBs.
Whit Merrifield leads the Royals with a .286 batting average. Mike Moustakas has the team lead in home runs with 13 and RBIs with 42. Kansas City has a team batting average of .248 while opposing hitters are averaging .278 at the plate against Royals pitching. On Tuesday, Kansas City will send Ian Kennedy to the mound. The right-hander this season is 1-6 with an ERA of 5.76, 62 Ks and 25 BBs.
