The Cincinnati Reds open a three-game series on the road Friday against the Colorado Rockies.
The Reds lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday 5-4 and will conclude their series at home with the Pirates on Thursday. On Wednesday, Reds gave up a run-scoring triple in the 12th inning that led to their third loss in their last four games. Just prior to Wednesday’s game, Cincinnati placed its closer Raisel Iglesias on the 10-day disabled list.
Colorado lost its second straight to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday 3-0 and is off on Thursday before welcoming the Reds to Mile High City and Coors Field. Colorado has lost four of its last five games played.
Scooter Gennett leads the Reds with a .328 batting average and team highs in hits with 59, home runs with nine and RBIs with 34. Cincinnati has a team batting average of .239 while opposing hitters are averaging .265 at the plate against Reds pitching. On Friday, the Reds will send Sal Romano to the mound. The right-hander on the season is 2-5 with an ERA of 5.62, 34 Ks and 25 BBs.
Nolan Arenado leads the Rockies with a .317 batting average and team high 53 hits. Charlie Blackmon has the team lead in home runs with 12, while Trevor Story leads in RBIs with 35. Colorado has a team batting average of .228 while opposing hitters are averaging .246 at the plate against Rockies pitching. Colorado will send Jon Gray to the mound on Friday. The right-hander on the season is 4-6 with an ERA of 5.34, 63 Ks and 13 BBs.
