Reds at Pirates 9/5/18 - MLB Picks & Predictions

NL Central Division foes will clash on Wednesday night, when the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates wrap up their three-game series from PNC Park. Last night, SP Cody Reed was tagged for nine hits and six runs during a 7-3 defeat. All-Star 2B Scooter Gennett hit two home runs for the Reds, who are 21 games below .500 overall.

Thirty-two year old righty Homer Bailey (1-13 6.13 ERA) will head to the hill for the Reds in this contest. Bailey is looking to snap a six-start losing streak and has been tagged for 21 runs over that stretch. The Pittsburgh Pirates have taken the first two games of this series, but have fallen out of postseason contention. On Tuesday, Starling Marte blasted a two-run shot and Gregory Polanco added a two-run double to spark the Pittsburgh offense. SP Joe Musgrove struck out eight batters over six plus innings for the Pirates, who are three games below .500 overall.

Pittsburgh skipper Clint Hurdle will give the nod to talented righty Jameson Taillon (11-9 3.45 ERA) on Wednesday. The Pirates have won each of Taillon’s last three starts and he has allowed four runs over his last 19 frames.

Pittsburgh SP Chad Kuhl (forearm) threw from a slope on Wednesday and hopes to return by the middle of this month. Through 139 games, Cincinnati ranks 4th in batting average and 14th in runs scored. For the season, Pittsburgh ranks 10th in batting average and 19th in runs scored. Take the under in the series finale. Final Score Prediction, Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2.
