The Cincinnati Reds open a three-game weekend series on the road against the San Diego Padres on Friday.
The Reds are off Thursday after defeating Arizona on Wednesday 7-4. Adam Duvall hit a grand slam to tie the game for the Reds while Scott Schebler’s two run homer broke a tie in the sixth giving the Reds an advantage the D-Backs could not overcome.
The Padres won their second straight on Wednesday defeating the Miami Marlins 3-2. Hunter Renfroe had a pinch-hit single during the ninth inning leading to two runs after Miami made a throwing error. The Padres have won three of their last five overall and end their series with the Marlins on Thursday.
Scooter Gennett leads the Reds with a .343 batting average, and a team high in hits with 71 and home runs with 10. Eugenio Suarez leads the team in RBIs with 43. Cincinnati has a team batting average of .245 while opposing hitters are averaging .269 at the plate against Reds pitching. On Friday, the Reds will send Tyler Mahle to the mound. The right-hander this season is 3-6 with an ERA of 4.76, 56 Ks and 22 BBs.
Eric Hosmer leads San Diego with a .272 batting average. Christian Villanueva has a team high 14 home runs and 33 RBIs. San Diego has a team batting average of .228 while opposing hitters are averaging .256 at the plate against Padres pitching. The Padres have not yet announced their starting pitching for Friday against the Reds.
