The Wednesday MLB schedule will get underway with a matchup between the Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets from Citi Field. The Reds dropped Monday night’s series opener, but bounced back last night with a 6-1 victory. SP Sal Romano (7-9) allowed just two hits and one run over six frames to earn the win for Cincinnati, who won for the 50th time on the season.

Interim Cincinnati skipper Jim Riggleman has yet to name a starting pitcher for this matchup. The Reds rank 25th in team ERA at 4.72 runs allowed per game and 26th with 44 quality starts. The New York Mets are 19 games below .500 overall and have been one of the most disappointing teams in the majors this season. The Mets took Monday night’s opener by a 6-4 final score, but managed just four hits on Tuesday. Brandon Nimmo had two hits and scored a run in a losing effort for New York, who is 16.5 games out of first place.

All-Star righty Jacob deGrom (5-7 1.85 ERA) has endured a hard-luck season for the Mets. The thirty year old righty has lost three straight starts and still ranks first in the National League in ERA.

New York SP Steven Matz (arm) threw a bullpen session on Monday. Through 114 games, Cincinnati ranks 5th in batting average and 10th in runs scored. For the season, New York ranks 30th in batting average and 26th in runs scored. Look for deGrom to snap this person three-game skid with a win on Wednesday. Final Score Prediction, New York Mets win and cover the run line 5-2.
