Red Sox at Rays 7/22/19 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Monday MLB schedule will get underway with a nationally televised battle between the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays from Tropicana Field. On Sunday, 3B Rafael Devers’ seventh inning double was Boston’s only hit during a 5-0 loss at Baltimore. SP Andrew Cashner (9-5) gave up four runs in six innings against his former team.

Twenty-six year old southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez (11-4 4.34 ERA) will take the mound for the Red Sox in this matchup. Rodriguez has won three straight starts and has allowed four runs over his last 18 plus frames.

The Tampa Bay Rays are two games ahead of Boston in the AL East standings, but both teams are unlikely to catch the first place Yankees. On Sunday, Tampa Bay salvaged the final game of their weekend series with Chicago by a 4-2 final score. SP Blake Snell struck out ten batters across six shutout frames for the Rays, who trail Oakland by one game for the final AL Wild Card spot.

Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash has yet to name a starting pitcher for the series opener. The Rays have fashioned using relievers as opener and rank second in the majors with a 3.42 team ERA.

Tampa Bay SP Tyler Glasnow (forearm) was shut down for the next two weeks after his MRI on Monday. Through 100 games, Boston ranks 4th in OPS and 1st in runs scored. For the season, Tampa Bay ranks 18th in OPS and 18th in runs scored. Look for Monday’s game to go over the total. Final Score Prediction, Boston Red Sox win 6-5.
