Red Sox at Blue Jays 7/2/19 - MLB Picks & Predictions

AL East Division foes will battle on Tuesday night, when the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays open up a series from the Rogers Centre. The Red Sox will be glad to be anywhere but London, after being torched for 29 runs in consecutive losses against the Yankees. On Sunday, Boston allowed nine runs during the seventh inning of a 12-8 loss. The Red Sox are a season high 11 games out of first place.

Thirty-three year old southpaw David Price (5-2 3.36 ERA) will head to the hill for the Red Sox in this contest. Last time out, Price allowed two runs in six innings during a 6-3 home victory versus Chicago. The Toronto Blue Jays will not contend in the AL East Division this season, but have plenty of exciting pieces to make some noise in the near future. On Monday, Toronto SS Freddy Galvis homered twice during an easy 11-4 home victory versus Kansas City. Rookie Cavan Biggio drove in four runs for the Blue Jays, who are 21 games below .500 overall.

The Blue Jays will turn to twenty-five year old righty Trent Thornton (2-5 4.60 ERA) in the series opener. Control has been an issue for Thornton, who has walked 40 batters and surrendered 13 home runs in 86 innings.

Boston 1B Mitch Moreland (quad) has been fielding grounders and there is no timetable for his return. Through 84 games, Boston ranks 5th in OPS and 4th in runs scored. For the season, Toronto ranks 27th in OPS and 24th in runs scored. Take the Red Sox to score a much needed victory. Final Score Prediction, Boston Red Sox win 6-4.
