On Sunday, the Boston Red Sox conclude their four-game series on the road with Houston Astros.
Boston has lost each of the first two games of the series including Friday’s 7-3 setback. On Friday, George Springer paced the Astros with three hits including his 12th home run, while Evan Gattis and Carlos Correa each hit home runs. J.D Martinez hit a home run that followed Mitch Moreland’s in the fourth inning for Boston. However, it was not enough as Gerrit Cole took the win to move to 6-1 on the season. Chris Sale took the loss and is now 5-3. The loss was Sale’s second straight as he allowed four run in his six innings of work. Boston played without Mookie Betts who was put on the disabled listed and will not be eligible to come off until next Friday.
Mookie Betts leads the Red Sox with a .359 batting average and team high 66 hits, but that offense will be missed as he is on the DL. J.D. Martinez leads the team in home runs with 19 and RBIs with 48. Boston has a team batting average of .266 while opposing hitters are averaging .234 at the plate against Astros pitching. On Sunday, the Red Sox will send Rick Porcello to the mound. The right-hander this season is 7-2 with an ERA of 3.65, 70 Ks and 15 BBs.
