The Tampa Bay Rays conclude their three-game series on the road against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday.
The Rays were beaten by the Mariners in the opening game of the series on Friday 4-3 for their second straight loss. The Mariners won the game on a walk-off home run in the 13th inning by Mitch Haniger. Seattle is now 6-0 in games that go to extra innings this season. Haniger has 12 home runs and eight game-winning RBIs already this season. Roenis Elias was called up earlier on Friday for Seattle from Triple-A and posted the win after pitching two shutout innings for the Mariners. Matt Andriese who gave up Haniger’s home run took the loss to drop to 1-3. Edwin Diaz the closer for Seattle allowed a tying run during the ninth for his third blown saves early in the season out of 22 opportunities.
Matt Duffy leads the Rays with a .319 batting average. C.J. Cron is the team leader in hits with 60, in home runs with 12 and in RBIs with 32. Tampa Bay has a team batting average of .260 while opposing hitters are averaging .228 at the plate against Rays pitching. On Sunday, the Rays will send Blake Snell to the mound. The left-hander this season is 7-3 with an ERA of 2.56, 76 Ks and 23 BBs.
