Rangers at Rays 6/30/19 - MLB Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 08/20/2019 at 8:09 AM ET

Tropicana Field will play host to a Sunday afternoon battle between the Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays. Texas took Friday’s series opener in shutout fashion, but saw their six-game winning streak come to an end yesterday during a 5-2 loss. Joey Gallo doubled and scored a run for the Rangers, who trail Houston by five games for the AL West Division lead.

Thirty-five year old righty Jesse Chavez (3-2 2.79 ERA) will make his sixth start of the season for the Rangers. Last time out, Chavez allowed five hits and one run in six plus innings during a 5-3 victory at Detroit. The Tampa Bay Rays are nine games above .500 overall and are trying to keep pace in the AL East Division. On Saturday, rookie SP Brendan McKay took a perfect game into the sixth inning in his major league debut. Willy Adames hit one of three home runs on the day for the Rays, who are seven games out of first place.

Reigning Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell (4-7 5.01 ERA) has failed to recapture the magic of last season. Snell is winless in his last three starts and has been tagged for 16 runs over his last seven innings of work.

Tampa Bay SP Tyler Glasnow (arm) was shut down for a couple of weeks after being diagnosed with right flexor inflammation. Through 83 games, Texas ranks 8th in OPS and 3rd in runs scored. For the season, Tampa Bay ranks 18th in OPS and 19th in runs scored. Look for Snell to get back on track with an easy victory on Sunday. Final Score Prediction, Tampa Bay Rays win 6-1.
