The Thursday MLB schedule will get underway with a matinee between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Miami Marlins from loanDepot Park. The Pirates (38-51) are ten games below .500 on the road and 11 games off the pace in the NL Central Division race. Last night, Pittsburgh RP David Bednar blew his fourth save of the season by allowing three runs during a 5-4 road loss in ten innings.

Twenty-eight year old righty Zach Thompson (3-6 4.38 ERA) will take the mound for the Pirates in this matchup. Control has been an issue for Thompson, who has allowed 27 walks through 63 plus frames.

The Miami Marlins have split their last ten games and trail NL East Division leading New York by 12 games. On Wednesday, Miami 1B Jesus Aguilar scored the winning run on a wild pitch. OF Avisail Garcia contributed two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Marlins, who improved to 42-45 on the season.

The Marlins will counter with twenty-four year old righty Braxton Garrett (1-3 4.33 ERA) in the series finale. Last time out, Garrett gave up three runs in five plus innings during a 5-4 road loss against New York.

Miami 2B Jazz Chisholm (back) has started to resume baseball activities and hopes to play in the All-Star Game. Through 89 games, Pittsburgh ranks 28th in OPS and 28th in runs scored. For the season, Miami ranks 17th in OPS and 23rd in runs scored. Take the over. Final Score Prediction, Miami Marlins win 5-4.
