Pirates at Reds 9/28/18 - MLB Picks & Predictions

NL Central Division foes will meet on Friday night, when the pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds open up a weekend series from the Great American Ball Park. Last night, Pittsburgh managed just four hits during a 3-0 loss at Chicago. The Pirates are two games above .500 overall and have been eliminated from postseason contention.

Twenty-six year old righty Nick Kingham (5-7 5.23 ERA) will head to the hill for the Pirates in this contest. Through 72 plus innings, Kingham has surrendered 17 home runs and owns a 1.33 WHIP. The Cincinnati Reds have been unable to generate any offense over the last two weeks and are limping to the finish line. On Tuesday, Cincinnati allowed a ninth inning home run to Hunter Dozier during a 4-3 loss versus Kansas City. Dilson Herrera connected on a two-run shot for the Reds, who have lost five straight games.

The Reds will counter with twenty-eight year old righty Anthony DeSclafani (7-7 4.91 ERA) in the series opener. DeSclafani has lost three straight starts and has been tagged for 12 runs over his last 15 plus innings.

Pittsburgh SP Joe Musgrove has been shut down for the remainder of the season with an abdominal injury. Through 158 games, Pittsburgh ranks 10th in batting average and 20th in runs scored. For the season, Cincinnati ranks 9th in batting average and 18th in runs scored. Take the Reds to break out of their offensive funk with a home victory on Friday. Final Score Prediction, Cincinnati Reds win 6-3.
