Last Updated: 06/17/2022 at 11:37 AM ET

In the first game of a Friday MLB day-night doubleheader, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals will square off from the nation’s capital. The Phillies (33-31) have won eight of their previous ten games and trail NL East Division leading New York by 8.5 games. Last night, OF Kyle Schwarber homered twice to power Philadelphia to a 10-1 road triumph against Washington.

Twenty-five year old righty Bailey Falter (0-2 4.20 ERA) will make his fourth career major league start. Last time out, Falter gave up five runs (2 ER) and lasted just three innings during an 8-6 road loss against New York.

The Washington Nationals have dropped 23 of their first 34 home games and are trapped in the NL East Division basement. On Thursday, Washington was limited to five hits and committed two errors. SP Patrick Corbin (3-9) was roughed up for nine runs (2 ER) in three plus innings and took the loss for the Nationals, who fell to 23-43 on the year.

Twenty-three year old righty Joan Adon (1-10 6.95 ERA) has not been able to figure things out at the major league level. Control has been a huge issue for Adon, who has walked 36 batters through 58 innings of work.

Philadelphia IF Johan Camargo is currently on the 10-day injured list with a right knee strain. Through 64 games, Philadelphia ranks 5th in OPS and 6th in runs scored. For the season, Washington ranks 19th in OPS and 18th in runs scored. Take the over. Final Score Prediction, Philadelphia Phillies win 7-6.
