Philadelphia Phillies at Cincinnati Reds 6/2/21 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Wednesday MLB schedule will get underway with a battle between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds from the Great American Ball Park. Last night, Philadelphia used an 18-hit attack and pounded seven long balls during a 13-3 road triumph against Cincinnati. Andrew McCutchen and Odubel Herrera hit two home runs apiece for the Phillies (26-29).

Twenty-four year old righty Spencer Howard (0-1 5.56 ERA) will make his third start of the season for the Phillies. Through 11 plus innings, Howard has yet to allow a home run and has struck out 19 batters.

The Cincinnati Reds are two games below .500 at home and trail Chicago by six full games for first place in the NL Central Division. On Tuesday, Cincinnati SP Sonny Gray (1-4) gave up four runs in four plus innings and took the loss. OF Tyler Naquin got the scoring started with a two-run blast in a losing effort for the Reds (24-29).

The Reds will counter with rookie right-hander Valdimir Gutierrez (0-1 1.80 ERA) on Wednesday. In his first start, Gutierrez allowed two hits and one run in five innings during a 1-0 road loss against Chicago.

Philadelphia OF Bryce Harper (forearm) is unlikely to return from the 10-day injured list when he is first eligible. Through 55 games, Philadelphia ranks 22nd in OPS and 20th in runs scored. For the season, Cincinnati ranks 7th in OPS and 9th in runs scored. Take the Phillies to win on the road. Final Score Prediction, Philadelphia Phillies win 5-4.
