On Wednesday, rookie OF Christian Morel broke a fifth inning tie with a three-run blast to put Chicago ahead to stay. SP Hayden Wesneski (3-1) allowed one run in five innings to earn the win for the Cubs, who improved to 69-86 on the year.

Rookie right-hander Javier Assad (1-2 4.28 ERA) will make his sixth career major league start for the Cubs. Through 27 plus innings, Assad has struck out 23 batters and owns a subpar 1.57 WHIP.

Philadelphia RP Brad Hand has been placed on the 15-day injured list with left elbow tendinitis. Through 154 games, Philadelphia ranks 8th in OPS and 7th in runs scored.
