The San Diego Padres (18-28, 5th NL West) conclude their four-game series at PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates (26-18, 2nd NL Central) on Sunday.
On Friday, the Padres beat the Pirates 3-2 in the second game of the series, while the Pirates won the first game 5-4. Eric Hosmer had a pair of doubles and Tyson Ross was victorious for the first time in over a month. Ross, who is now 3-3, ended a winless streak of five straight starts by allowing five hits and two runs over six innings. Although the Pirates lost, they have won 8 of their last 10 overall. Starling Marte remains sidelined for Pittsburgh, but replacement Austin Meadows had a pair of hits and one stolen base in his major league debut.
Eric Hosmer leads the Padres with a .277 batting average. Christian Villanueva is the team leader in home runs with 10 and RBIs with 22. Jose Pirela has a team high 46 hits. San Diego has a team batting average of .228, while opposing hitters are averaging .252 at the plate against Padres pitching. San Diego has not yet announced the starting pitcher for Sunday’s game.
Corey Dickerson leads the Pirates with a .318 batting average and team high 50 hits and 29 RBIs. Gregory Polanco leads the team in home runs with eight.
