The San Diego Padres continue their series on the road Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The two teams opened the series on Monday. On Sunday, San Diego won their second straight game defeating the Miami Marlins 3-1. Clayton Richards flirted with a no-hitter until the Marlins got their first hit in the seventh inning with two outs. Nevertheless, the Padres went on to a two-run victory and have won six of their last eight overall.
St. Louis lost on Sunday 6-3 to the Cincinnati Reds to snap a three-game winning streak. The Cardinals are now in third place in the NL Central three games behind first place Milwaukee.
Eric Hosmer leads San Diego with a .292 batting average. Christian Villanueva leads the team in home runs with 15 and RBIs with 35. San Diego has a team batting average of .234, while opposing hitters are averaging .255 at the plate against Padres pitching. San Diego has not yet announced its starting pitcher for Tuesday’s second game of this series with St. Louis.
