Last Updated: 08/07/2019 at 7:39 AM ET

In the first game of an Opening Day MLB tripleheader on ESPN, the Baltimore Yankees will visit the Bronx to take on the New York Yankees. The Orioles lost the fifth most games in major league history a season ago and turned to former Cubs’ bench coach Brandon Hyde to replace longtime skipper Buck Showalter. OF Cedric Mullins will take over for Adam Jones in CF and figures to play everyday, while slugger Chris Davis figures to bat cleanup.

Thirty-two year old righty Andrew Cashner (4-15 5.29 ERA) will take the mound for the Orioles in this contest. Cashner posted a respectable 4.26 ERA in 25 plus innings against the Yankees in 2018.
The New York Yankees have won a major league record 27 World Series Championships and are the favorites to win it all this season. The Yankees won 100 games in 2018, but finished eight games behind Boston for the AL East Division title. Sluggers Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge will anchor the middle of a devastating lineup. Talented SP Luis Severino is expected to miss the first month of the season with a rotator cuff injury.

Thirty year old right-hander Masahiro Tanaka (12-6 3.75 ERA) will draw his fourth Opening Day nod for the Yankees. Tanaka was just 5-5 and allowed a .272 opponents’ batting average at home last season.

New York OF Aaron Hicks (back) will remain in extended Spring Training and is expected to return by mid-April. Last season, Baltimore ranked 26th in OPS and 27th in runs scored. New York counters with an offense that ranked 2nd in OPS and runs scored. Take New York to win on Opening Day. Final Score Prediction, New York Yankees win and cover the run line 6-3.
