On Friday, the Baltimore Orioles open a three-game series on the road against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Orioles lost their Wednesday game to the Chicago White Sox 11-1 and complete their four-game series with Chicago on Thursday. In Wednesday’s loss, the Orioles lost for the fourth time in their last five games and have lost 21 of 26 road games this season. Alex Cobb took the loss to fall to 1-6 on the season.
Tampa Bay lost on Wednesday to Boston 4-1 and will finish its series at home with the Red Sox on Thursday before hosting Baltimore. Tampa Bay gave up three runs in the ninth inning to the Red Sox thanks to committing an error, wild pitch and passed ball.
Manny Machado leads the Orioles with a batting average of .328 and team highs in hits with 62, home runs with 15 RBIs with 43. Baltimore has a team batting average of .232, while opposing hitters are averaging .285 at the plate against Orioles pitching. Baltimore has not yet announced its starting pitcher for Friday’s series opener.
Matt Duffy leads the Rays with a .311 batting average. C.J. Cron holds the team lead in hits with 50, home runs with 11 and RBIs with 28.Tampa Bay has a team batting average of .260, while opposing pitchers are averaging .237 at the plate against Rays pitching. On Friday, the Rays will send Ryan Yarbrough to the mound. The southpaw this season is 4-2 with an ERA of 35 Ks and 14 BBs.
