In Wednesday afternoon MLB action, the Baltimore Orioles and New York Mets will complete a two-game set from Citi Field. Last night, SP Alex Cobb allowed one run and struck out seven batters over six frames to pitch Baltimore to a 2-1 victory. Manny Machado stole a base and drove in a run for the Orioles, who are 23 games below .500 overall.
Twenty-five year old righty Dylan Bundy (3-7 4.46 ERA) will take the mound for the Orioles in this matchup. In his last start, Bundy allowed 11 hits and three runs over six frames during a 3-2 loss versus Washington.
The New York Mets have dropped five straight and 12 of their last 15 games overall. On Tuesday, New York managed just three hits in support of losing pitcher Jason Vargas. The veteran lefty allowed both runs in the first inning for the Mets, who have fallen seven full games behind the NL East Division leading Atlanta Braves.
New York skipper Mickey Callaway will turn to right-hander Zack Wheeler (2-4 5.14 ERA) on Wednesday. The Mets have lost each of Wheeler’s last six starts and he has allowed 22 runs over his last 34 frames.
