An interleague clash will take place on Monday night, when the New York Yankees invade Truist Park to take on the Atlanta Braves. The Yankees (72-52) are riding a nine-game winning streak and were rained yesterday. On Saturday, SP Gerrit Cole fanned six batters across six shutout frames during a 7-1 home victory versus Minnesota.
Twenty-eight year old southpaw Jordan Montgomery (4-5 3.77 ERA) will take the mound for the Yankees in this matchup. New York has won Montgomery’s last three starts and he has allowed four runs over his last 14 plus innings.
The Atlanta Braves have reeled off nine straight victories and have opened up a 5.5 game lead for first place in the NL East Division. On Sunday, Atlanta OF Adam Duvall had two hits and drove in a pair of runs during a 3-1 road victory against Baltimore. DH Jorge Soler added a solo shot for the Braves, who improved to 68-56 on the season.
The Braves will counter with twenty-three year old righty Huascar Ynoa (4-2 2.70 ERA) on Monday. Through 50 innings of work, Ynoa has struck out 54 batters and owns a solid 1.02 WHIP.
