New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays 7/28/21 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The New York Yankees will play the second game of a three-game series on the road Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. New York is 51-47 following a 5-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday. The Yankees were idle Monday and New York is third in the American League East, 9 ½ games behind the first-place Boston Red Sox. The Yankees have lost three of the last four.

Aaron Judge is batting .282 to lead New York and the right fielder has 21 home runs, 47 RBIs and a .375 on-base percentage to lead the Yankees in each of those three categories. Second baseman DJ LeMahieu is the leader in hits with 99. On Wednesday, New York will send Nestor Cortes to the mound. The right-hander is 0-0 with an ERA of 1.95, 34 Ks and 10 BBs.

Tampa Bay was also off on Monday and the Rays are 60-40 following a 3-2 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Sunday. The loss snapped Tampa Bay's five-game winning streak and kept the Rays from sweeping the Indians in a four-game series after winning each of the first three. Tampa Bay is second in the AL East 1 ½ games behind first-place Boston.

Third baseman Joey Wendle is batting .284 to lead Tampa Bay, while  second baseman Brandon Lowe is the leader in home runs with 21 and  designated hitter Austin Meadows is the leader in RBIs with 71. Left fielder Randy Arozarena is the leader in hits with 89. On Wednesday, Tampa Bay will send Michael Wacha to the mound. The right-hander is 2-2 with an ERA of 5.16, 57 Ks and 18 BBs.

New York has struggled against Tampa Bay but the Yankees will come up a big with a strong outing from Nestor Cortes on the mound and slugger Aaron Judge has been taken off the injury list and will be back in the lineup on Wednesday. New York has improved at the plate to 20th in batting average and is 11th in team ERA. Final Score Prediction, New York Yankees win 4-2.
