New York Yankees at Oakland Athletics 8/27/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Oakland Athletics host the New York Yankees for the second game of a four-game series Aug. 27.

Adam Oller gets the start for Oakland. The righthander is 2-6 with a 6.41 ERA in 16 games, 11 of them starts. He is 1-2 over his last four starts with a 4.15 ERA. Oller’s strikeouts (5.52) per nine innings barely outpace his walks per nine (4.92).

Domingo German gets the nod for the New York. The Yankees righthander got a late start to the season because of a shoulder injury and did not pitch until July 21. He has gone 2-2 in seven starts with a 3.89 ER since returning. German got the win in his last outing by allowing just one earned run in 6.1 innings against the crosstown rival New York Mets.

Aaron Judge is having an outstanding season for New York at the plate, hitting .296 with 48 HRs and an OPS of 1.053. The Yankees slugger had been in a bit of a slump but has heated up again the last seven games by going 7 for 21 with two homers.

Oakland’s offense has been downright offensive this season. The A’s have scored just 424 runs, ranking second to last in MLB ahead of only Detroit (405). Only two A’s regulars have an OPS over .700: Catcher Sean Murphy (.782) and 1B Seth Brown (.718). Murphy’s .255 average, .334 on-base percentage and. 448 slugging percentage all lead the team. His 16 HRs have him just one behind Brown.

Oakland is seriously lacking on offense and is sending an overmatched Oller to the mound to start. Expect New York to score early and often in this one. Getting Giancarlo Stanton back from injury reaped immediate rewards, as a somewhat struggling Yankees offense put up 13 runs in Oakland to open the series. New York may not reach double digit runs in this one, but it should be an easy win. Final Score Prediction: New York Yankees 7-2.
