In Friday night MLB action, the New York Yankees and the Oakland Athletics will continue their series from RingCentral Coliseum. The Yankees (75-52) have reeled off 12 straight wins and trail Tampa Bay by four full games for the AL East Division lead. Last night, All-Star OF Aaron Judge broke a ninth inning tie with an RBI single to lift New York to a 7-6 road victory.
Thirty-year old righty Gerrit Cole (12-6 2.92 ERA) will head to the hill for the Yankees in this contest. Last time out, Cole fanned six batters across six shutout frames during a 7-1 home victory versus Minnesota.
The Oakland Athletics are five games above .500 at home and trail Boston by 2.5 games for the final AL Wild Card spot. During Thursday's loss, SP James Kaprielian gave up six runs in five innings and did not factor in the decision. Josh Harrison, Matt Chapman, and Sean Murphy all went deep in a losing effort for the Athletics, who fell to 70-58 on the year.
The Athletics will give the nod to talented left-hander Sean Manaea (8-8 3.77 ERA) on Thursday. Oakland has lost three of Manaea’s last four starts and he has given up 17 runs over his last 15 plus innings.
