The New York Mets open a four-game series on the road Monday against the St Louis Cardinals. New York is 10-11 following a 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for New York and helped to keep the Mets tied for first place in the National League East with both the Philadelphia Phillies and Washington Nationals. Michael Conforto hit a tie-breaking home run in the ninth inning in the victory.

Brandon Nimmo is batting .318 to lead New York and the center fielder has team highs in hits with 21 and on-base percentage at .430. First baseman Pete Alonso is the leader in home runs with five and RBIs with 13. New York has hit 16 home runs in its first 21 games played. New York has not yet announced a starting pitcher for the opening game of the series with St Louis on Monday.

St Louis improved to 15-12 following a 12-5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday. Jack Flaherty threw six strong innings and Paul DeJong hit a three-run home run helping to lead the Cardinals to the victory. St Louis has won four of its last five and the Cardinals are second in the National League Central two games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers.

Tommy Edman is batting .295 to lead St Louis and the third baseman has a team-high 33 hits. Shortstop Paul DeJong is the leader in home runs with six, third baseman Nolan Arenado is the leader in RBIs with 18 and left fielder Dylan Carlson is the leader in on-base percentage at .361. On Monday, St.Louis will send Adam Wainwright to the mound. The right-hander is 0-3 with an ERA of 4.08, 32 Ks and 6 BBs.

New York is holding onto first place in the National League East, but the Mets have struggled of late losing three of the last four. New York continues to have problems at the plate as the Mets are averaging .232 which is 17th in baseball and New York has scored only 63 runs which is last in the majors.
