New York Mets at New York Yankees 8/22/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Subway Series will resume on Monday night, when the New York Mets and the New York Yankees square off in the Bronx. The Mets (79-44) are 14 games above .500 on the road and hold a four-game cushion over Atlanta for NL East Division supremacy. On Sunday, Mark Canha homered twice and drove in five runs to power New York to a dramatic 10-9 road victory against Philadelphia.

Three time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (9-2 2.15 ERA) will head to the hill for the Mets in this contest. The Mets have won four of Scherzer’s last five starts and he has allowed just seven runs over his last 34 plus frames.

The New York Yankees have lost 20 of their last 30 games and currently hold an eight-game lead in the AL East Division. On Sunday, leadoff hitter Andrew Benintendi went deep and scored twice to lead New York to a 4-2 home victory versus Toronto. All-Star P Nestor Cortes allowed one run in six innings and did not factor in the decision for the Yankees (74-48).

The Yankees will counter with thirty year old right-hander Domingo German (1-2 4.45 ERA) on Monday. In his last start, German gave up three runs in four plus innings during an 8-7 home victory versus Tampa Bay.

New York OF Giancarlo Stanton (Achilles) is on a minor league rehab statement with Double-A Somerset and hopes to return later this week. Through 123 games, the Mets rank 7th in OPS and 4th in runs scored. For the season, the Yankees rank 4th in OPS and 2nd in runs scored. Take the over. New York Mets win 6-3.
