NL East Division foes will square off on Sunday afternoon, when the Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals wrap up their weekend series from the nation’s capital. The Marlins (36-40) have reeled off three straight victories and trail first place New York by 11 games. On Saturday, Miami 1B Jesus Aguilar homered and scored twice during a 5-3 road victory.

Twenty-six year old righty Pablo Lopez (5-4 2.98 ERA) is quietly putting together a strong season for the Marlins. Through 87 plus innings, Lopez has fanned 88 batters and owns a sparkling 1.08 WHIP.

The Washington Nationals have dropped 10 of their 11 games against Miami this season and sitting in last place. During yesterday’s home loss, Washington went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and grounded into two double plays. OF Juan Soto hit his 15th home run of the season in a losing effort for the Nationals (29-51).

Washington manager Dave Martinez will turn to twenty-nine year old righty Erick Fedde (5-5 4.40 ERA) on Sunday. The Nationals have won four of Fedde’s last five starts and he has allowed 12 runs over his last 26 plus frames.
