In Thursday night MLB action, the Miami Marlins will take on the New York Mets from Citi Field. The Marlins (55-78) have dropped 46 of their 67 road games and are sitting in last place in the NL East Division standings. In the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader, Miami surrendered five runs during the bottom of the ninth inning on their way to a 6-5 defeat.
Rookie right-hander Zach Thompson (2-6 3.16 ERA) will make his 14th career major league start. Through 62 plus innings, Thompson has allowed just six home runs and owns a solid 1.12 WHIP.
The New York Mets had an August that they would like to forget and have fallen 5.5 games behind NL East Division leading Atlanta. In the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader, OF Michael Conforto hit a two-run blast to power New York to a 3-1 home victory against Miami. Brandon Nimmo added two hits and scored a run for the Mets (65-67).
The Mets will counter with thirty-four year old righty Carlos Carrasco (0-2 6.94 ERA) in the series finale. Last time out, Carrasco gave up two runs in seven innings during a 3-2 home loss versus San Francisco.
