The Wednesday MLB schedule will get underway with a matchup between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals from Nationals Park. Last night, SP Steven Matz was rocked for seven runs and did not get out of the first inning during an ugly 25-4 defeat. Jeff McNiel hit a solo shot for the Mets, who fell to 16 games below .500 overall.

Flame-throwing righty Noah Syndergaard (6-1 2.89 ERA) will come back from a stint on the disabled list with an illness to start for the Mets. Through 74 plus innings, Syndergaard has struck out 85 batters and allowed just five home runs.
Washington GM Mike Rizzo decided not to deal All-Star Bryce Harper at the trade deadline and the Nationals still have time to climb back into the NL East Division race. On Tuesday, Daniel Murphy homered twice and drove in six runs against his former club. Harper scored three times for the Nationals, who are five games out of first place.

Thirty-one year old southpaw Tommy Millone (0-0 5.40 ERA) will make his second start of the season for the Nationals. In his first start, Millone allowed eight hits and three runs during a 10-3 victory at Miami.

New York OF Jay Bruce (hip) expects to start swinging a bat soon and remains out indefinitely. Through 104 games, New York ranks 30th in batting average and 28th in runs scored. For the season, Washington ranks 17th in batting average and 20th in runs scored. Take Washington to close out this two-game home set with a win. Final Score Prediction, Washington Nationals win 5-2.
