Mets at Nationals 7/31/18 - MLB Picks & Predictions

Two of the most disappointing teams in the majors will meet on Tuesday night, when the New York Mets visit the Washington Nationals. The Mets split a four-game series in Pittsburgh over the weekend and are 15 games below .500 overall. On Sunday, SP Zack Wheeler went six innings and drove a run during a 1-0 victory.

Twenty-seven year old southpaw Steven Matz (5-8 3.79 ERA) will head to the hill for the Mets in this contest. In his last start, Matz allowed four runs over six frames during a 12-6 victory at Pittsburgh. The Washington Nationals were expected to run away with the NL East Division, but have not gotten going this season. The Nationals dropped the final two games of their series in Miami and managed just one run total. Washington is a game below .500 overall and trails Philadelphia by six full games for first place.

Thirty-one year old righty Tanner Roark (4-12 4.55 ERA) may have turned the corner in his last start, Roark struck out 11 batters and allowed just three hits across eight frames during a 7-3 victory at Milwaukee.

New York SP Noah Syndergaard (illness) is scheduled to come off the disabled list and start Wednesday’s game. Through 103 games, New York ranks 30th in batting average and 28th in runs scored. For the season, Washington ranks 19th in batting average and 20th in runs scored. Take the Mets to win as a nicely priced underdog. Final Score Prediction, New York Mets win in big upset 5-3.
