Mets at Nationals 3/30/19 - MLB Picks & Predictions

NL East Division rivals will clash on Saturday afternoon, when the New York Mets invade the nation’s capital to face the Washington Nationals.

The Mets underachieved in manager Mickey Callaway’s first year at the helm and finished eight games below .500 overall. On Opening Day, SP Jacob deGrom struck out ten batters over six frames to pitch New York to a 2-0 victory. Robinson Cano homered in his first at-bat with the Mets to provide the offense.

Hard-throwing righty Noah Syndergaard (13-4 3.03 ERA) will head to the hill for the Mets in this contest. Last season, Syndergaard allowed nine home runs and stuck out 155 batters over 154 plus innings. The Washington Nationals lost OF Bryce Harper to Philadelphia in free agency, but still expect to contend in a highly competitive NL East Division. The Nationals won 82 games in 2018 and have reached the postseason in five of the last eight years. On Thursday, Washington managed just five hits in support of SP Max Scherzer.

Thirty year old righty Stephen Strasburg (10-7 3.74 ERA) will look to pitch Washington to their first win of the year. Strasburg owns an impressive 1.09 WHIP through 1229 plus innings of work.

New York OF Yoenis Cespedes (heels) played catch on Monday and is not expected to return until midseason. Last season, New York ranked 24th in OPS and 23rd in runs scored. Washington ranked 8th in OPS and runs scored. There is a good feeling around this Mets squad this season. Take New York to win their second straight. Final Score Prediction, New York Mets win 5-3.
