In Saturday afternoon MLB action, the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants will continue their weekend series from AT&T Park. Last night, New York’s anemic offense managed just three hits during a 7-0 loss against San Francisco. SP Zack Wheeler struck out nine batters and allowed just one run in a losing effort for the Mets.

Twenty-seven year old southpaw Steven Matz (5-11 4.36 ERA) will take the mound for the Mets in this matchup. Last time out, Matz allowed one run and struck out seven batters over seven innings during a 15-0 loss versus Washington. The San Francisco Giants are 11 games above .500 at home, but have struggled a great deal on the road this season. On Friday, Aramis Garcia broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning with an RBI single. Evan Longoria broke the game open with a bases clearing triple for the Giants, who are eight games back in the race for the final NL Wild Card spot.

San Francisco skipper Bruce Bochy will turn to thirty-one year old lefty Derek Holland (7-8 3.65 ERA) on Saturday. Over his last three starts, Holland has allowed just two runs and struck out 16 batters in 16 innings of work.

New York 3B David Wright (shoulder) was expected to join the team in San Francisco for this series. Through 134 games, New York ranks 29th in batting average and 23rd in runs scored. For the season, San Francisco ranks 21st in batting average and 26th in runs scored. Take New York to even this series with a win on Saturday. Final Score Prediction, New York Mets win 5-3.
