The New York Mets begin a four-game weekend series on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday.
The Mets lost on Tuesday to the Miami Marlins 5-1. New York acquired veteran Jose Bautista, who was in the starting lineup for the Mets, and hit a double in his first at bat. Bautista, who is 37, signed with New York after being cut on Sunday by Atlanta. Bautista played left field and batted fifth.
Milwaukee beat Arizona on Tuesday 1-0 for its second straight win and fifth in its last six games. The Brewers now lead the National League Central by 2 ½ games over St. Louis. Jhoulys Chacin along with three Brewers relievers held the D-Backs to three hits on Tuesday.
Asdrubal Cabrera leads the Mets with a .317 batting average and team high 53 hits. With Yoenis Cespedes on the DL, the home run leader for the Mets is Cabrera with seven. New York has a team batting average of .236, while opposing hitters are averaging .245 at the plate against Mets pitching. On Thursday, the Mets will send Steven Matz to the mound.
