In the first game of the double header here the Mets will be coming into the game only 3 games back from the Braves in the standings. However, the Braves are a team that is really hungry and looking to take first place back from the Phillies who they trail by a half game. That is going to be something the Mets will need to really take into consideration as the Mets would like to gain ground on the Braves and what is better than taking 2 in the same day?
Coming into the game the Mets offense has put in 196 runs on a hitting average of .239. What has been helping to keep the Mets competitive in the games is the pitching that has a team ERA sitting at the 4.08 mark.
For the Braves the offense has been amazing and is ranked 4th in scoring with 254 runs. The hitting is doing decent with an average of .264 and the pitching staff is starting to look like Braves teams of old with an ERA that sits at 3.59.
The Braves have not decided who to send out to the mound yet in this game. However, a lot of that can stem from the fact the Braves have been pitching a lot more and the manager wants to make a good choice on who to send out since this is the first game of a double header.
The Mets are planning on sending out Jacob deGrom. On the season thus far deGrom has been able to throw a total of 58.1 innings striking out 77 batters with a 4-0 record and an amazing 1.54 ERA.
