Marlins at Phillies 7/26/20 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Sunday MLB schedule will get underway with a matchup between the Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies from Citizens Bank Park. The Marlins upset the Phillies on Opening Day, but managed just six hits during yesterday’s 7-1 loss. SP Caleb Smith walked six batters before being pulled after three innings and did not factor in the decision.

Twenty-eight year old righty Jose Urena (4-10 5.21 ERA) will take the mound for the Marlins in this matchup. Last season, Urena was much better on the road and allowed just three runs in 15 innings against the Phillies.

The Philadelphia Phillies are one of four teams that could contend in what should be a tightly contested NL East Division race. On Saturday, DH Phil Gosselin connected on two of Philadelphia’s four home runs and drove in three. SP Zack Wheeler (1-0) gave up just five hits and one run across seven solid frames to earn his first victory for Philadelphia.

The Phillies will tab hard-throwing righty Vince Velasquez (7-8 4.91 ERA) to start the series finale. In 2019, Velasquez was roughed up for 21 hits and 17 earned runs in just 21 plus innings versus the Marlins.

Miami OF Lewis Brinson (undisclosed) is working out with the team and his status to return remains uncertain. Last season, Miami ranked 30th in OPS and 29th in runs scored. Philadelphia counters with an offense that ranked 17th in OPS and 14th in runs scored in 2019. Look for the over to cash on Sunday. Final Score Prediction, Philadelphia Phillies win 7-5.
