NL East Division foes will battle on Monday night, when the Miami Marlins visit the Washington Nationals to begin a three-game series. The Marlins have won three straight games and allowed just one run during that stretch versus Cincinnati. On Sunday, rookie SP Trevor Richards struck out nine batters over seven innings to lead Miami to a 6-0 victory.

Rookie right-hander Sandy Alcantara (2-1 2.35 ERA) will make his fifth career major league start for the Marlins. Control has been an issue for Alcantara, who has walked 16 batters through 23 innings of work. The Washington Nationals were expected to win the NL East Division, but have been eliminated from postseason contention. On Sunday, Washington rallied for three runs in the eighth inning before falling versus New York by an 8-6 final score. Victor Robles tripled and homered in a losing effort for the Nationals, who are at .500 overall on the season.

Thirty year old right-hander Stephen Strasburg (9-7 3.83 ERA) will head to the hill for the Nationals in this contest. Strasburg has won consecutive starts and has struck out 20 batters over his last 13 frames.

Miami 3B Martin Prado has been placed on the 60-day disabled list with a right abdominal strain. Through 155 games, Miami ranks 26th in batting average and 30th in runs scored. For the season, Washington ranks 12th in batting average and 9th in runs scored. Take the Marlins to win their fourth straight game. Final Score Prediction, Miami Marlins win in big upset 5-3.
