On Tuesday, the Miami Marlins open a three-game series on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Marlins are off on Monday, but lost their third straight game on Sunday falling to the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-1. The Marlins have now lost six straight and were swept by the D-Backs in the three-game series.
St. Louis was off on Monday as well. The Cardinals beat Pittsburgh on Sunday 5-0 to win three of four games over the Pirates during their weekend series. On Sunday, Michael Wacha came up just short of a no-hitter as he lost his bid in the ninth inning to Colin Moran a pinch-hitter who led off with a single. St. Louis easily won and now is just 3 ½ game out of first place in the NL Central.
Brian Anderson leads the Marlins with a .291 batting average. Justin Bour has the team lead in home runs with 10 and RBIs with 25. Miami has a team batting average of .233 while opposing hitters are averaging .253 at the plate against Marlins pitching. On Tuesday, the Marlins will send Jose Urena to the mound. The right-hander this season is 0-7 with an ERA of 4.41, 58 Ks and 17 BBs.
Jose Martinez leads the Cardinals with a .292 batting average and team highs in hits with 59 and RBIs with 31. Tommy Pham leads the team in home runs with nine. St. Louis has a team batting average of .239 while opposing hitters are averaging .237 at the plate against Cardinals pitching. On Tuesday, the Cardinals will send Carlos Martinez to the mound. The right-hander this season is 3-2 with an ERA of 1.62, 47 Ks and 22 BBs. This will be his first start since May 8.
