The Tuesday MLB schedule will get underway with a meeting between the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees from the Bronx. Seattle split a four-game series with visiting Boston over the weekend and is 20 games above .500 overall. On Sunday, SP Mike Leake (7-4) was tagged for five runs during a 9-3 loss against the Red Sox.
Twenty-six year old southpaw Marco Gonzales (7-3 3.42 ERA) will make his 15th start of the season for the Mariners. Seattle has won each of Gonzales’ last five starts and he has allowed just six runs total over that stretch.
The New York Yankees will return home after splitting a semi-doubleheader yesterday against the Washington Nationals. The Yankees lost the completion of the suspended game and then rallied in the nightcap for a 4-2 victory. Aaron Hicks hit a go ahead two-run shot to spark New York, who is in a virtual tie with Boston for the AL East Division lead.
The Yankees will counter with talented right-hander Domingo German (1-4 5.23 ERA) in the series opener. New York has won each of German’s last two starts and he has struck out 19 batters over his last 12 frames.
