Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres 9/11/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The San Diego Padres host the Los Angeles Dodgers for the final game of a three-game series Sept. 11. Los Angeles leads the season series 10-4 after losing the series opener, 5-4, Friday.

Joe Musgrove is scheduled to start for San Diego, while Andrew Heaney gets the nod for Los Angeles. Musgrove is 9-6 with a 3.16 earned run average this season. Heaney is 2-2 with a 2.94 ERA. Musgrove has 152 strikeouts in 153.2 innings, while Heaney has struck out 78 in 52 IP. The longball has been a problem for Heaney this season as he has allowed nearly two per nine.  

Musgrove has faced the Dodgers once this season, taking the loss June 30 at Dodger Stadium.  The San Diego righthander had a quality start in that contest, giving up three runs in seven innings. He allowed a walk, five hits and two home runs; he struck out 10.

The Dodgers beat the Padres in Heaney’s lone start against the National League West foe, but he did not earn a decision. The lefthander gave up four hits in 4.2 innings with one walk and three strikeouts.

Among Padres hitters, Jurickson Profar has had the most success against Heaney with six hits and a home run in 19 at bats. Manny Machado has just three hits in 13 Abs against Heaney, but two of those hits were homers. Machado leads San Diego with 11 HRs and a .925 OPS since the All-Star break.

Several Dodgers have had past success against Musgrove, none more than Max Muncy who has eight hits in 17 at bats, including a home run, three doubles and five walks. Justin Turner has five hit and two HRs in 12 at bats against Heaney, while Freddie Freeman is 6-for-18 with a home run.
