Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies 6/29/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The NL West leading Dodgers will head on the road for the series finale against their divisional rival Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers were shutout in the series opener falling 4-0 at Coors Field and dropping to 45-27 on the season. Colorado has had some struggles this year and is 32-42 on the year, 14 games back of the Dodgers and last place in the NL West.

Los Angeles holds the MLB’s highest payroll and is loaded all across the field. The Dodgers offense is second in the league in scoring offense averaging 5.06 runs per game and with this lineup, that is no surprise. Shortstop Trea Turner has continued to produce leading the team hitting .313 and is 8th in the MLB with 53 RBIs this season.

The steady arm of Julio Urias will be tasked with shutting down the Rockies, he’s 5-6 on the year but has a 2.84 ERA which is 10th in the MLB on the year. Urias is coming off a great start allowing a run on three hits in just six innings of work, he struck out nine. Urias faced the Rockies in his first start of the season and was shelled, allowing six runs in just two innings but has settled down since a tough opening start.

Colorado has one of the biggest discrepancies in home vs away production at the plate, they’re averaging 5.72 runs per game at home which leads the league. CJ Cron has had a fantastic season leading the team with 17 home runs and is sixth in the MLB with 54 RBIs. Cron has bounced around the league throughout his career, but after a career season last year has been even better in 2022 and on pace to shatter his career highs in most categories.

The right-handed German Marquez will start for the Rockies in what has been one of the worst seasons of his career. Marquez is 4-5 but has a 5.58 ERA and 1.50 WHIP on the season, but is coming off the best start of his year and hoping to build some momentum. Marquez shut down the Twins allowing just three hits in 7.2 innings and despite issuing five walks, blanked the Twins in a 1-0 win.

After a strong start to the series the Rockies are able to pull off the upset at home and win this game. German Marquez appears to have finally settled in to the season, and is able to build off of an excellent start. The Dodgers will be missing Mookie Betts, a key piece to the lineup, and the Rockies offense is the best in the league when at Coors Field. Final score prediction, Colorado Rockies win 6-4.
