Twenty-seven year old righty Trevor Bauer (3-3 2.59 ERA) will take the mound for the Indians in this matchup. Last time out, Bauer struck out 10 batters in eight innings during a 6-0 victory at Detroit.
The Chicago Cubs took three out of four in Cincinnati over the weekend and are six games above .500 overall. On Sunday, the Cubs blasted three home runs in support of Yu Darvish’s first win during a 6-1 triumph over the Reds. Chicago ranks second in team ERA and is 1.5 games behind Milwaukee for the NL Central Division lead.
Chicago skipper Joe Maddon will turn to righty Tyler Chatwood (3-3 3.14 ERA) in the series opener. Control has been an issue for Chatwood, who has walked 34 batters in his first 43 innings of work.
