Houston Astros at Boston Red Sox 10/20/21 - MLB Picks & Predictions

Game Five of the ALCS will take place on Wednesday night, when the Houston Astros and the Boston Red Sox square off from Fenway Park. Last night, Houston erupted for seven runs in the ninth inning to earn a series-tying 9-2 road victory. Jose Altuve tied the game at two with a solo shot and Michael Brantley added a bases clearing double for the Astros.

Twenty-seven year old southpaw Framber Valdez (11-6 3.14 ERA) will take the mound for the Astros in this matchup. Valdez has been shaky this postseason, allowing 13 hits and seven runs through seven innings of work.

The Boston Red Sox finished 23 games above .500 at home during the regular season and lead the postseason with a .941 OPS. During Tuesday’s home loss, Boston went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. Nathan Eovaldi surrendered four runs and took the loss for the Red Sox.

The Red Sox will counter with talented left-hander Chris Sale (5-1 3.16 ERA) in this pivotal game. In two starts this postseason, Sale has been tagged for nine hits and six runs across three plus frames.

Houston SP Lance McCullers  suffered a right forearm injury and was left off the team’s ALCS roster. Through 162 games, Houston ranked 2nd in OPS and 1st in runs scored. For the season, Boston ranked 3rd in OPS and 5th in runs scored. Take the over. Final Score Prediction, Boston Red Sox win 7-6.
