In Sunday afternoon MLB action, the Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets will conclude a weekend series from Citi Field. The Diamondbacks have dropped nine of their last ten games overall and lead Colorado by a half-game for the NL West Division lead. Last night, Arizona could not hold on to a two-run lead in the eighth inning and lost by a 5-4 final score.
Thirty-three year old righty Clay Buchholz will make his first start as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Buchholz has made 190 major league starts and owns a 81-62 record with a 4.01 ERA.
The New York Mets have cooled off since their red hot start in April and are three games above .500 overall. On Saturday, Wilmer Flores drove in Brandon Nimmo with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth innings. Devon Mesoraco tied the game with a two-run blast in the eighth inning for the Mets, who are 3.5 games behind Atlanta for the NL East Division lead.
Flame-throwing righty Noah Syndergaard (3-1 3.14 ERA) will head to the hill for the Mets on Sunday. Last time out, Syndergaard allowed five hits and struck out seven batters across five frames during a 12-2 victory versus Toronto.
