Detroit Tigers at Texas Rangers 8/28/22 - MLB Picks & Predictions

The Texas Rangers host the Detroit Tigers in the rubber game of a three-game series Aug. 28. Texas won the first game 7-6, while Detroit got an 11-2 victory Saturday. This outcome will also decide the winner of the season series which is tied at 3-3.

Drew Hutchison (1-7, 4.06 ERA) is making his 12th start of the season for the Tigers. Hutchison allowed three runs in 4.2 innings when he faced the Rangers at home in June.

Kohei Arihara (1-1, 2.31 ERA) will start for just the third time in 2022 for the Rangers. Arihara held the Minnesota Twins scoreless for six inning his last time out, allowing just four hits and no walks while striking out three.

Detroit is last in runs scored for 2022. The versatile Harold Castro is the only Tigers regular with an OPS over .700 at .707. He has played mostly first base, third base and shortstop, but has seen time at second base, leftfield and centerfield as well.

Rangers first baseman Nathaniel Lowe is having the best season of his four-year career with 21 homeruns and an OPS of .840. Lefthanded batters are hitting .285 off Hutchison this season, so Lowe and shortstop Corey Seager (28 HR, .794 OPS) should have good days for Texas.

The Tigers are a dismal 20-43 on the road this season. Detroit's second half on-base percentage of .273 is the worst in MLB. It has been a disappointing season for the Rangers as well, but the Texas offense has been much better since the break ranking sixth in runs scored. Final Score Prediction: Texas Rangers win 6-2.
