Last Updated: 05/17/2022 at 10:45 PM ET

In Wednesday afternoon MLB action, the Detroit Tigers will battle the Tampa Bay Rays from Tropicana Field. The Tigers (13-24) have dropped 11 of their first 15 road games and are struck in last place in the AL Central Division standings. Last night, 3B Jeimer Candelario's solo shot was the only offense Detroit could muster during an 8-1 road loss against Tampa Bay.

Twenty-nine year old southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez (1-2 3.72 ERA) will make his eighth start of the season for the Tigers. Last time out, Rodriguez tossed six plus shutout frames during a 4-2 home victory versus Baltimore.

The Tampa Bay Rays are three games above .500 at home and trail AL East Division leading New York by five full games. During Tuesday's home victory, Tampa Bay OF Kevin Kiermaier homered as part of a three-hit night. SP Shane McClanahan (3-2) allowed one run across seven innings to earn the win for the Rays, who improved to 22-15 on the year.

Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash will give the ball to right-hander Drew Rasmussen (3-1 2.67 ERA) in the series finale. The Rays have won Rasmussen’s last five starts and he has allowed just five runs total over that stretch.

Tampa Bay 2B Brandon Lowe has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a lower back injury. Through 37 games, Detroit ranks 29th in OPS and 30th in runs scored. For the season, Tampa Bay ranks 20th in OPS and 15th in runs scored. Take the Tigers to win on the road. Final Score Prediction, Detroit Tigers win 4-2.
