The St. Louis Cardinals have split their previous ten games and trail Cincinnati by five games for the final NL Wild Card spot. On Tuesday, St. Louis managed just six hits and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. SP Jack Flaherty (9-2) gave up four runs in two innings and took the loss for the Cardinals (63-61).
The Cardinals will counter with veteran left-hander Jon Lester (4-6 5.46 ERA) in the series finale. In his last start, Lester gave up four runs in four plus innings during an 8-4 home victory versus Milwaukee.
